Group Life Insurance
Free life insurance is provided to all eligible employees.
Group Health Insurance (medical, dental, prescription, and vision care)
Plans are available on a voluntary, participatory level for all eligible employees. The Board of Education and employee share the cost of health insurance.
Sick Leave
Teachers shall be entitled to ten days of sick leave each year without loss of pay. Sick leave is available for actual sickness or disability of the teacher or necessary appointments with a physician or dentist. A teacher who does not earn annual leave may use a maximum of five days annually of accumulated sick leave for serious illness of a member of the family residing permanently in the household or when adopting a child.
Transfer of Sick Leave
Teachers entering Prince George’s County directly from another public school system in Maryland may transfer a maximum of ten days per year of sick leave earned and accumulated in that system. (The maximum number of days that can be transferred is 100.)
Family Medical Leave
Eligible employees are provided 12 work weeks of unpaid leave during a 12-month period.
Personal Leave
Instructional personnel may be granted personal leave not to exceed three days in any school year. Unused personal leave will be transferred to your accumulated sick leave at the end of the school year.
Leave for Death
On the death of a child, parent, parent-in-law, legal guardian, brother, sister, husband or wife, or anyone who has lived regularly in the household of a teacher; the teacher shall be allowed four working days of absence from school without loss of salary. One day is allowed for the death of a grandparent.
Tuition Reimbursement
Tuition reimbursement will be at the rate of $200 per credit for nine credits of course work taken for the renewal of Standard Professional or Advanced Professional Certificate and will be disbursed on a first come, first served basis.
Tenure
After two years of satisfactory service, all regularly certified teachers will receive tenure.
Credit Union
The employees of Prince George’s County Public Schools have organized a credit union. This organization, owned and controlled by its members, is chartered and supervised by the federal government.
Tax Deferred Annuity
The Board of Education offers a wide selection of Tax Deferred Annuities as personal retirement savings plans for all employees.
Retirement
All teachers newly employed in Maryland must join the Maryland State Teacher’s Pension System. The Board and employee contribute into this plan. Employees contribute 2% of their original salary.
